Well Done BAMBIS!

Congratulations to Danielle Price, Sarah Todd and all the peer supporters at Liverpool BAMBIS (Breastfeeding And Mums Breastfeeding Information and Support). Sarah and Daniel are the BAMBIS Community Peer Support Coordinators. http://www.liverpoolwomens.nhs.uk/Library/our_services/maternity/BambisLeaflet_2.pdf

I have recently heard that their breastfeeding peer support programme won the “Best Supporting Organisation for Parents award” at the recent family-go-live awards ceremony in Liverpool.

I am happy to have worked with Sarah and Danielle offering training and support to their project. Their hard work and dedication has meant that more mothers and babies of Liverpool have experienced happier and longer breastfeeding relationships.

Well Done,
Anne

Just one week until Baby Friendly conference in Cardiff

Three of the directors from Breastfeeding LENS will be attending the upcoming UNICEF BFI conference.  And, what an array of interesting speakers on offer, such as: Carlos González, Paediatrician and author of My Child Won’t Eat! and Kiss Me! Margot Sunderland, Director of Education and Training at the Centre for Child Mental Health: Kate Billingham, Senior Advisor, Nurse Family Partnership International: And, Carol Bartle, Researcher and Coordinator of Canterbury Breastfeeding Advocacy Service.

Andrene will be there wearing her infant feeding coordinator hat and Anne and Marion will be there running stalls for lactation consultant organisations. Anne will be at the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) stall. Marion the Lactation Consultants of GB stall.

If you see us please come and say hello and have a chat (though we can’t discuss LENS business whilst on the stalls).

If you are unable to attend  such an exciting conference then watch this space as Andrene, Anne and Marion will be blogging about the conference.

You may be wondering what the other directors are up – Jill will be in New Delhi, India attending the World Breastfeeding Conference.

While they are away I will be looking after Breastfeeding LENS and celebrating my son’s 18th birthday.

Mothering - Mothering - Mothering - Mothering

On a long train journey I overheard two mothers discussing their baby’s growth and development.

I began to reflect how mothers are constantly bombarded with opportunities to compare their baby’s progress with weight charts, developmental stages and media reports.

As a new mother I remember my need to judge my mothering through comparing my baby’s progress against another baby. I am also aware how detrimental this can be to the mother’s self esteem and ultimately the child’s.

It is a mothering challenge to love unconditionally, to celebrate children for who they are and not what they are.

It is a challenge for mothers to love themselves, to feel that they are good enough and not to check how they are doing through their children achievements – to find a soft kind tender place for the mothering that they do and celebrate that they are good enough and that their children are also good enough as they are.
